ELLA Study
The Early Learning Lab, Auckland (ELLA) is a research group led by Associate Professor Annette Henderson at the University of Auckland, School of Psychology. Our research focuses on understanding how babies, toddlers and young children understand the world around them and learn to work with others.

Alma
Antenatal corticosteroids effect on Lactation and MAternal-Infant health), an observational cohort study investigating if antenatal corticosteroids given before planned caesarean section at or close to term can influence the composition of breastmilk and the regulation of a hormone, called cortisol, in the mother and baby after birth.

FTDGeNZ
The New Zealand Genetic Frontotemporal Dementia Study (FTDGeNZ) is an emerging longitudinal study of a large New Zealand pedigree with genetic frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Natural history studies of genetic FTD cohorts provide a unique opportunity to identify biomarkers of pre-symptomatic dementia, as carriers can be identified and studied decades before expected symptom onset.

FIIX
The FIIX Study is a clinical trial comparing the two main fertility procedures available through public funding in Aotearoa New Zealand – The Fertility and In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and Intra Uterine Insemination (IUI) trial in couples with uneXplained infertility.

SNAPP
In New Zealand, Pacific Island peoples are over-represented in those with diabetes and cardiovascular disease. The reasons for this remain unclear. The ‘hunger’ hormone ghrelin is known to protect against cardiovascular disease, in part, by silencing the ‘sympathetic’ nerves that stress cardiovascular system. The purpose of our study is to test whether ghrelin is lower in Pacific Island peoples and could explain their increased cardiovascular disease risk. It is hoped that our work will pave the way for future studies targeting ghrelin to safely lower cardiovascular disease risk.

STRIDER
STRIDER stands for Sildenafil TheRapy In Dismal prognosis Early onset intrauterine growth Restriction. The STRIDER NZAus trial aims to determine whether sildenafil therapy can improve the growth of babies affected by severe, early-onset growth restriction while they are still in the womb.

MoPED
MoPED stands for Moderate-to-late Preterm Babies Early Brain Development.
The aim of the MoPED study is to find out if early changes in brain development in moderate-to-late preterm babies are an important marker of later development.

ARM Trial
A large-scale biobanking project in which tissue for histology and RNA analysis is collected from women at risk for stillbirth. Samples will be collected and categorized by week of gestation, maternal ethnicity, smoking status, diabetesstatus and foetal sex. Histologic samples will be assessed for standard parameters and RNA expression determined for placental Corticotropin Releasing Hormone, placental progesterone and placental oestrogen.
